Eating in Florence
Since Italian food is my favorite food, I was especially excited to eat in Italy. Unfortunately, we were there for such a short period of time that we did not get to try many restaurants. Here is a list I am compiling of restaurants which receive good reviews and are cheap for my upcoming trip, as well as my review of the one restaurant we did get to try.
ilPizzaiuolo- Supposedly the best pizza in Florence. Naples-style pizza as well as pastas etc. Very popular, might need a reservation. Near the Santa Croce Church.
Trattoria le Mossacce- Near the Duomo. Gets great reviews on tripadvisor. Cheap, rustic cooking.
La Mescita- The one place we did eat in Florence. Near the Accademia. (degli Alfani 70r) Tiny little place recommended by Rick Steves, so we decided to try it. There were only maybe 3 tables in the whole place, and it seemed to do some take away business. There were a selection of pastas to choose from, and I think a menu of sandwiches on the wall that I never saw. I ordered wine, and James ordered a Coke (all cans in Italy). We both got pastas for lunch. I couldn't decide between a bolognese and a ziti ricotta, so he gave me half of each. James got lasagna. The pastas were portioned out, and reheated in the microwave, but I have got to tell you, it was the best pasta I have eaten and James agrees. The bread was brought out first, and the olive oil was divine. Best part? The bill was 13 euros. Super cheap, great. We will go back. Oh, and do know that they seat you with other people.
