After everything that I have thrown myself into over the past years (television, DisneyWorld, musical theatre), it is interesting that it would be cruising that would capture my imagination enough to actually prompt me to create a website etc. After our first cruise last year, we left Europe with such an afterglow that it was difficult to tell whether it was Europe or the cruise or the fact that it was a Disney cruise that we so enjoyed. It was the kind of vacation where everything fell into place and produced a perfect memory. This year, Europe still impressed, but the cruise struck a chord with us, letting us know that we are, indeed, "cruise people." This doesn't mean that every vacation will be a cruise. We will still be frequenting Disney World on a yearly basis and will definitely have some land vacations around Europe, but if we have the opportunity to vacation by sea, all the better.
There is something really comforting about getting back in a completely American environment after spending the day in Europe. Air conditioning, familiar food, coke that doesn't cost $5 a piece, English speakers, toilet seats, ice. After going all day without these things, it is so nice to know they will be waiting for you onboard. When James and I dragged ourselves out of our sweaty bed in Venice which didn't have a proper comforter and ate one more tiny European breakfast, it was all we could do to not race to the ship and American conveniences. After 5 days in Italy, we were spent and ready for something "normal". This is part of what makes cruising so great: you can experience exotic people and places and still have a little slice of home.
