As I hope you already know, the podcast is up! So far we have over 200 downloads, including some in foreign countries such as Sweden, Belgium, France, Australia and Georgia (yeah, the country). With little to no feedback, it is hard to know whether or not people are enjoying it, but I hope they are. It is difficult, though, to figure out exactly who to target this thing to. The original plan was to speak mainly to cruise fans because those are the people you know will remain interested in cruising. But, many of my friends who have never cruised before are asking general questions about cruising. I worry that if I get too basic, the regular cruisers won't be interested enough to come back, but if I get too detailed, newbies might be scared off.
The podcasts I have listened to in the past are always extremely detailed, and just assume they are speaking to fans, which I usually am or want to be. That seems to work in most cases, but I really want to help new cruisers also. For now, I think it will remain a mix, and we will see who listens (and more importantly, who gives me feedback). We should be in iTunes very soon, so keep an eye out for that.
On another subject, I was kind of shocked at how much the cruise community blew up yesterday over the change in the smoking policy on Carnival, Princess and Holland America. I mean, who is really shocked that lines are no longer allowing smoking in rooms after most hotels and restaurants on land have already done this a long time ago. But some of the comments directed to John Heald on facebook were outrageous. I saw people demanding refunds, claiming that they no longer wanted to cruise with Carnival. May I ask...who cruises soley to smoke?
